trip-hop, depth, and London (inner) weather report by nównøis

I made EP1 • verses in the same place I live. Same walls, same light, same interruptions. No studio mythology — just a London flat home-studio and the kind of focus you build in fragments.
This EP isn’t a storyline. It’s inner weather. Slow shifts. Quiet pressure. The kind of sound that doesn’t beg to be noticed — it just keeps you company until you notice yourself.
I’m releasing it in a way that matches how it was made: exclusive first (my website + Bandcamp), then rolling out track by track on streaming. I want each piece to land properly, not get swallowed by a release day and forgotten by morning.
Btw., I don't believe that it's a trip hop album. I think it's just nównøis. Or nownois.
what EP1 • verses sounds like
Minimal doesn’t mean empty. It means intentional.
The core is texture and voice — breath, weight, atmosphere — and rhythm that’s built from sampled noises rather than “electronic drums.” I like taking ordinary sounds and pushing them into exciting drum patterns until they stop being “objects” and start being movement. It’s percussion made from friction, knocks, room tone, accidents — whatever is real enough to carry emotion without being obvious. I used samples from Jon Wilson, Astrid M, Travis Korzac, Boohai, and more to come on the next 2 EPs, but hey. No rush. (You can see the exact instruments on the leaflet.
The mix lives close. Vocals forward, space wide, details present. I’m not aiming for shine. I’m aiming for truth that stays.
“distance (far edit)” and the radio cut
"Distance (far)” is the most trip hop infused song on your EP." (Bartek Music)
“distance (far edit)” is one of the songs that holds the centre of this world for me. It’s about that specific kind of closeness that still feels like distance — when you’re sitting next to someone and the gap keeps growing anyway.
come closer, i won’t hurt you, or not as much as you do
And then there’s “distance (closer edit)” — not part of EP1, but more like a radio edit of “distance (far edit).” Same core, different framing: a tighter cut, a more direct impact. Like saying the same sentence again, but this time without looking away.
why I’m rolling the EP out song by song
Because this way I have served my core audience — you — with a larger body of work, and I also give a bigger chance to others to find me. I've finally accepted that I'm London and started building a community here, but it will take a lot more to find many of the beautiful people like you. Trip-hop fans or not, I trust that there are more of you.
100% DIY, and I mean all of it
nównøis is one person. One set of hands.
I write it, produce it, record it, shape the sound, shape the visuals, decide the pacing — and I’m keeping the support route direct, too. My DIY merch bundle is part of that: one-off keyrings designed and made by me, leaflet and stickers designed by me, all packed and shipped by me, so
if you buy it, you’re not buying “merch.” You’re buying a physical piece of the world behind the music.
If you listen on streaming later, I’m grateful. If you support through my site or Bandcamp, you’re keeping the project alive in real life. It's a lot of work, and just 30% of what I feel needs to be done. And I'm amazed by the support and love this EP and the bundle has already received in a month. So, thank you. I imagined a trip-hop party where everyone's got a neon keyring... A dream of an artist like me. Maybe we can all meet up one day.
where to start
If you’re new here:
Start with “distance (far edit)” if you’ve ever felt alone next to someone.
If you want it tighter and more immediate, try “distance (closer edit)” (radio edit).
If you want the wider world, start the EP from track one and let it move slowly.

FAQ london | trip-hop | nównøis
What is EP1 • verses?
EP1•verses is my 100% DIY EP — written, produced, and recorded in my London flat home-studio. It’s vocal-led, cinematic, and minimal, with percussion built from sampled noises shaped into drum patterns. Get ready for the unexpected.
Are there electronic drums on the EP?
No — I don’t use electronic drum kits here. The “drums” are sampled noises arranged into rhythmic patterns, so the percussion still feels alive and textural.
Is “distance (closer edit)” part of the EP?
No. “distance (closer edit)” isn’t on EP1 • verses — it’s more like a radio edit of “distance (far edit)”.
Where can I buy EP1•verses?
You can buy it directly from my website and Bandcamp (exclusive release first), and then I’m rolling it out track by track onto streaming platforms. Secret revealed: the EP is already out on Apple Music and iTunes
What genre is nównøis?
I sit somewhere between experimental electronic, trip-hop influence, and soul — but I care more about mood and meaning than staying inside a clean genre box.
